Muay Thai, or Thai boxing as it is also known, is a combat sport full of techniques. A martial art also known as the art of the “eight weapons” because it uses 8 regions of the body which are:
- The two fists,
- The two elbows
- The two knees,
- The two shins and the feet.
Where did Muay Thai come from?
Muay Thai was created by the Thai people to defend themselves in war and aims to immobilize their opponents by using sharp blows with both the upper and lower limbs.
But as time went by, Muay Thai became a sport that improves physical conditioning, besides promoting muscle strengthening, increasing elasticity, and favoring good cardiovascular functioning.
This is because the classes are focused on several physical exercises, such as running, push-ups, sit-ups, jump rope…
As Muay Thai is a sport that involves direct physical contact and friction with the opponent, it is important to use adequate equipment for better comfort and safety. Equipment such as shorts, gloves, helmets, bandages, shin guards, and mouth guards.
